    Intensive four day evening course for young dancers 

    18-21 July, 6.15pm -7.30pm

    Suitable for age 13+ dancers with 4 years of ballet or modern dance training



    Taught by Mark Bruce Company dancers Carina Howard and Christopher Thomas in our Frome Studio, this week of technique classes is a good introduction for those who have not tried contemporary before (but have other dance experience), and an opportunity to perfect technique for those with a little more experience.

    • More about the teachers

      Both Carina and Christopher appeared in our  recent productions MacbethReturn to Heaven and Phantoms - a triple bill.


      Carina Howard trained at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance where she graduated with a first class (hons) degree. Following this, she completed a masters at Northern School of Contemporary Dance with Distinction and the award for most outstanding achievement.


      Carina joined Mark Bruce Company in 2017, touring in their productions of Macbeth and Return to Heaven . Carina was a company dancer with Rosie Kay Dance Company, having toured in their productions of MK Ultra and Rosie Kay’s Fantasia. In 2020, Carina was commissioned by Rosie Kay to create a piece for The Dancers’ Project where Carina also performed in works by Shanelle Clemenson and Harriet Ellis. In 2021, Carina worked as a dancer in an upcoming Warner Bros feature film as well as a short film for the Met Police.


      Other performances include Mark Baldwin's The Creation, at Sadler's Wells Theatre alongside Rambert Company, Payne Productions’ Bluebeard: The Chamber’s Scent, Arielle Smith's Cradle, at the Barbican, the BBC Young Dancer 2017 Contemporary Category Semi-Finals at Dance East and Rambert School's Graduate Tour in works by Mark Bruce, Didi Veldman and Jenna Lee.


      In her spare time Carina enjoys working at Ascot Rehab as a Creative Movement Therapist for patients with Parkinson's disease.




      Christopher Thomas attended The Royal Ballet School (2008- 2013) and Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance graduating with a First Class BA Hons degree.


      Early career highlights include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang; Whistle Down the Wind and Mary Poppins under the directorships of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bill Kenwight and Sir Cameron Mackintosh. At Rambert School he performed with Rambert Company in A Linha Curva and The Creation.


      Christopher joined Mark Bruce Company for Macbeth (2018); Return to Heaven (2020) and currently Phantoms: A triple bill which includes Mark’s work Green Apples. He has also worked with Carolyn Bolton, Arielle Smith, Charlotte Edmonds, Gemma Payne Productions, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance, Polly Wright/The Tigers Bride, Theo Adams Company, and last year has been working in collaboration with Matthew Hawkins on RoomtoRoom, a special lockdown project to connect creatives worldwide during the pandemic. Christopher joined Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures for the UK tour of Romeo and Juliet in 2019 and again for the 2021 tour of The Midnight Bell.


      Choreographic highlights include DanceProms Young Choreographer of the Year 2017 for his work In Light of Those you Love. He became a Sadler’s Wells Young Associate Artist (2018-2019) creating works for both stages at the theatre including The Three Visions and To the Ocean Floor. He was a Cohan Collective Artist (2018) and as Christopher Thomas Dance continues his long-term collation with musician and composer Jordan Hunt.

      In the event that we are required to cancel the classes due to local or national restrictions we will give full refunds for all bookers.

      If you are unable to attend due to illness or if you are required to isolate please notify us as soon as possible.

      This course will only run if we have sufficient students in attendance, in the event that it is cancelled due to low numbers full refunds will be issued.
